Logistics & Safety
Because this retreat takes place in a remote mountain environment, we want participants to feel well prepared before arriving. The information below will help you understand what to expect and how to prepare.
Location & Elevation
Lost Wonder Hut sits in the Sawatch Range of Colorado at approximately 10,000 feet above sea level.
Spending time at a higher elevation can affect people differently, so we strongly recommend arriving in Colorado 1–2 days before the retreat to allow your body time to acclimate.
Nearby towns that work well for this include:
• Salida
• Buena Vista
Both offer a variety of lodging options and are within driving distance of the trailhead.
Food & Water
All meals, snacks, and drinking water will be provided during the retreat. We will be nourished by a private chef preparing thoughtful, hearty meals throughout our time together. If you have dietary needs or allergies, you will be able to share those during the application process.
Wilderness Environment
Lost Wonder Hut sits within an active wilderness corridor.
The Colorado Trail and Continental Divide Trail pass nearby, so it is possible that through-hikers may travel near the hut during our stay. While we will do our best to create a contained retreat space, the land is shared with other travelers moving through these wild places. Most participants find this to be part of the beauty of the setting a reminder that we are part of a larger landscape and community of people exploring it.
Getting to the Hut
The retreat begins at the trailhead at noon on June 27.
From the trailhead we will hike approximately 2.5 miles on a jeep road to reach Lost Wonder Hut.
The hike is gradual but takes place at elevation, so moving at a comfortable pace is encouraged.
To make the journey easier:
• The hut owner will transport our main gear and supplies to the hut
• Participants should plan to carry a small daypack
Your daypack should include:
• Water
• Layers or rain jacket
• Personal snacks if desired
• Medication or personal essentials
Fitness & Physical Considerations
Given the location and altitude, a baseline level of comfort for walking and hiking is recommended. Participants will have opportunities for wandering and gentle exploration of the surrounding landscape. Participation in hikes or movement activities is always optional. You are welcome to rest at the hut or spend quiet time nearby if that feels best for you. The intention is not to perform or push limits, but to move with the land at your own pace.
Weather in the Mountains
Mountain weather can change quickly at high elevation.
Participants should plan to bring layers and rain protection so they feel comfortable outdoors in a range of conditions.
Our retreat schedule will remain flexible so we can move with the rhythm of the land and adapt as needed.
Your Comfort & Preparation
Once your application is accepted, you will receive:
• A detailed packing list
• Additional travel information
• Preparation tips for high elevation
We will also gather for two pre-retreat group calls to review logistics, answer questions, and help everyone feel prepared before arriving.
